Board of Directors

Kim Miller, chair

A board member since 2007, Kim Miller became board chair in October 2011. He is a farmer who raises grass-fed beef and he lives with his wife, Diane, in Ligonier, Pa. Kim grew up in the Scottdale community and has been coming to Laurelville all his life as a camper, retreat organizer (he is deeply involved in our Sustainable Food & Farming conference), and program attendee.

Cindy Miller, vice chair

Cindy Miller joined the board of directors in 2005, assuming the role as vice chair in 2010. She has volunteered countless hours at Laurelville and has served as Bible teacher during several summer camps.

Cindy lives in Harrisonburg, Va. with her husband, Merrill, where they are employed by MennoMedia. Their two daughters attended camps at Laurelville during their youth; both also participated in Goshen College's Camping Inquiry Program here.

Jodi Miller, treasurer

The daughter of former Laurelville executive director Terry Burkhalter, Jodi Miller's connections to Laurelville date back to her early childhood. She joined the Laurelville board in 2010 and serves as treasurer. Jodi is an accountant and homemaker; she and her husband, Eric, live in Walnut Creek, Ohio, and are parents to two school-aged children.

When asked why she enjoys Laurelville, Jodi commented, "It is a holy place...there is this amazing feeling God's presence here—from the natural surrounding to the Christ-like hospitality provided by staff."

Laurie Weaver, secretary

A longtime Laurelville staff member whose tenure spanned six different executive directors, Laurie Weaver joined the board in 2010 and serves as board secretary. Laurie now works for RecSoft, an information technology company specializing in camp management software.

A Scottdale resident, Laurie and her husband, Neil, have provided IT support to Laurelville for many years and volunteered in many other capacities.. Their two daughters have attended Laurelville camps throughout their youth.

Kenneth Cullar

Kenneth Cullar has been a board member since 2005. He  previously served as secretary but handed duties off in 2010 upon the arrival of Laurie Weaver.

Ken is an educator from North Lima, Ohio. He grew up coming to Laurelville camps with his family. He and his wife, Dawn, have three children, all of whom have attended programs here as well. Ken appreciates many things about Laurelville, especially the safe, relaxing environment that allows for the maintenance and development of friendships.

Curt Hartman

Curt Hartman joined the board in 2009. He grew up coming to Laurelville, as his father, Dwight—a charter inductee of Laurelville's Creekside Circle—played an integral role in our growth and development as a camp and conference center.

He owns and operates Bluestone Vineyard, a winery outside Harrisonburg, Va., with his wife, Jackie. Both are regular attendees of Laurelville's popular Mennocycle program. 

Hannah Miedel

Hannah Miedel began her board term in 2011. She attended Laurelville camps as a child—her father is former program director and Mennonite Publishing House editor Levi Miller—and served on staff as a waitress and lifeguard as she grew older. Meidle is now family doctor who lives in Wooster, Ohio, with her husband, Anson, and their three children. She appreciates the safe atmosphere Laurelville offers that enables her children to roam freely and enjoy nature.

Ed Nofziger

Ed Nofziger joined the board in 2000. He formerly served as board treasurer, a four-year term that oversaw the alieviation of Laurelville's $1 million debt. He has a passion for Laurelville as a place where relationships can be built and faith development can occur.

Ed and his wife, Carol, live in Archbold, Ohio, where he is the owner of a successful door manufacturing and installation company.

Tiffany Nofziger

Tiffany Nofziger joined the board in 2009. Her husband, Jeff (son of board member Ed Nofziger), grew up coming to Laurelville, and the two began coming here together in 1998, finding it a nice space to retreat from home life and connect with other people.

Tiffany runs T & J Travel, a full-service travel agency. She lives in Wauseon, Ohio, with Jeff and their two children.

Nathan Savanick

Scottdale resident Nathan Savanick joined the board in 2011. He grew up coming to summer camp at Laurelville; now he volunteers in a variety of work projects here. Two things Nathan appreciates about Laurelville are friends and community.

Nathan is a small business owner, operating two family-owned collectibles stores, a floral shop and a tea room. He and his wife, Kristen, have one daughter.

Michael (Mike) D. Weaver

Michael Weaver's first term on the board began in 2002. He spent past six years as board chair, a role now assumed by Kim Miller. He first came to Laurelville for Music & Worship Leaders Retreats in the 1990s; now he is married to Rachel (Brubacher) Weaver, the daughter of Association members and former staffers Maynard and Jan Brubacher.

Michael and Rachel live in Harrisonburg, Va., with their three children. Michael works as a university software consultant.

Wayne Yoder

Wayne Yoder has served on the board since 2006. He first came to Laurelville as a young camper and still enjoys visiting what he describes as "a safe place for retreats and spiritual growth in a beautiful natural setting."

He and his wife, Roveen, live in Ridgeley, WV. Their grown children and now grandchildren have shared in many of their Laurelville experiences.
