Get to know Laurelville staff and Association members through "Catching up with...", a new Q & A segment we're adding to our monthly Breezes e-newsletters. This month we caught up with Gene Hartzler, whose tireless work this record breaking winter has maintained clear roads at Laurelville for hundreds of guests.
Brian Paff: How much snow have you pushed this winter?
Gene Hartzler: Probably close to 68 inches (Editor's Note: For you mathematicians, the combined distance of roads at Laurelville is roughly a mile. According to our calculations, this amounts to an estimated 253,440 cubic feet of snow!)
BP: What's the best feature of Witmarsum's renovation?
GH: It's handicap accessible.
BP: What do you enjoy about working at Laurelville?
GH: Meeting the guests and making sure they're taken care of.
BP: How many cups of mate (herbal tea common in Argentina) do you drink in a week?
GH: I drink it in the morning and evening...so, 14 tea kettles.
BP: Who are you rooting for in the World Cup this year?
GH: Argentina; I don't always like the way the U.S. plays.
BP: Who's going to win the World Cup?
GH: Brazil or Spain.
