Times have been tough for the Pittsburgh Pirates baseball squad over the past two decades, but the franchise nevertheless has a strong history of winning teams and iconic players.

No Pirate player is more recognizable than Roberto Clemente, a Puerto Rican native who won the hearts of Pittsburgh fans during the 1950s and 60s but who died in a tragic plane crash while delivering humanitarian aid to earthquake victims in Nicaragua. His legacy lives on today in many forms, including in the large bronze statue and park bearing his name outside of PNC Park.

Professional Football - Pittsburgh Steelers

Yinz are in Steelers country! The Pittsburgh Steelers are six-time Super Bowl champions, the true love of 'Burgh residents (not to mention much of Western Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Maryland) and one of the most storied franchises in professional sports.

Named appropriately for the city's longstanding ties to the steel industry, the Steelers bring a hard-nosed, defense-first approach to the game of football. During its dominant run of four Super Bowl victories in six years in the 1970s, the team's defense earned the nickname of "The Steel Curtain".

Games are played in Heinz Field on the north shore of the Ohio River.
